Found in The Pit….
When one lives at the end of the road, recycling and re-utilization of material moves beyond simple items into the form of art. Following the traditions of the old timers of the gold rush of ’98 everything is recycled into a new use.
A Russian radio that has been converted to a mp3 amplifier/speaker dock. Found in Russia, sent to Dawson as a gift, then modified into a MP3 player. This item of 1980’s vintage was manufactured in the former U.S.S.R. and was poorly put together.
The current owner removed the guts of the radio, replacing the innards with a twenty dollar MP3 player. The volume is controlled by the old tuning knob; the old band switch is the new power switch. A plastic case attached to the amp is the MP# player holder and it really works
The tuning dial doesn't’t contain frequency listings instead the towns around the U.S.S.R. are listed. The price of the radio is cast on the plastic on the back. The speaker sound is tinny. The Cyrillic letters create a very art deco flavor.
This plastic casting started life as a radio, then moved into the digital age and became a MP3 speaker dock, tomorrow it may turn into a electronic tool kid for a traveling musician. These are the things found in the Pit.Big Bird
